Sio slid closer to Kain on their bench, moving her bag, which had been resting between them. Blushing hotly, she placed her head on his shoulder, and returned his squeeze. "I'm glad to know you. You've been a great comfort to me, left alone in this city, when friends and those I consider my family are attacked and injured."

The small girl smiled, and looked upwards. "Oh! The fireworks are starting!"

Interrupted by the loud booms of the fireworks as they began exploding in a shower of bright colors over the river, Kain never got to respond to Sio, but the smile that was on his face was positively beaming even with the slight blush on his cheeks.

Carefully he slipped an arm around her, pulling her close as the colors reflected in the water nearby, silence all they needed in that moment.

Back at Ana and Dan's house, the first loud boom brought Ana's attention away from the dishes she was washing. Grinning huge, she set down the plate and rushed over to the window just in time to catch the fading sparkles in the night sky.

"Hey guys! It's starting!"
